The Secret of the Mimic Announcement
Just for context, I’ll start at the beginning. On August 6th 2024, Steel Wool dropped a very short, curious trailer for their next upcoming game. Secret of the Mimic and fans were hype for this upcoming release and left puzzling over who the new character shown might be.
The Missing Game
Thereafter, FNAF: Secret of the Mimic was handled in a weirdly mysterious way. The game was demoed at PAX West 2024 at the Steel Wool booth, where a VR version was available for those who lined up to try it out. The huge booth split its focus between celebrating FNAF’s 10th anniversary and launching the game. Although the event appeared to be a lot of fun for those in attendance, photography was extremely limited in the VR testing area, and no images of the game in action were released to the wider community. As a result, the only insights into the gameplay come from word-of-mouth accounts.
Later at the battle of the devs a screenshot or two leaked, but both were incredibly grainy and gave very little away. Steel Wool never released a demo.
And then there was silence. Not a peep from the studio, and a community left confused about what might be going on with the game they didn’t get to play.
A Continuation – Help Wanted 2
Very shortly before the trailer for Secret of the Mimic dropped, a patch was hastily added to Help Wanted 2, adding a lead-in teaser to build a bit of context around what the community would see in the trailer. This involved a very simple scavenger hunt to gather pieces for a jigsaw which demonstrated some concept art, a look at the toy factory/costume manor from the game and a brief moment where we see MXES and the machine carted off in the back of a retro style van.

That is, until the Playstation State of Play on February 12th 2025 where a large group of fans, expecting nothing but dissapointment were met with a real hint about what was to come.
It finally gave us a proper look at what Steel Wool were brewing and the responses ran the whole range from pleased to concerned. Together lets have a look through the trailer and see what we think about it frame by frame.
